A draw between Valencia CF and Rayo Vallecano (0-0) in the match of Matchday 35 of LALIGA EA Sports played at Mestalla. The team, who looked for the victory until the end and had their clearest chances in the boots of Yaremchuk and Sergi Canós, will look for a return to winning ways against Real Sociedad in their visit to the Reale Arena this coming Thursday (22:00).
Valencia CF took to the pitch determined to find the rival goal and put three crosses into the box in the first four minutes of play against a Rayo Vallecano team that arrived at Mestalla with very clear ideas.
The Madrid side knew how to execute their game plan and had two dangerous chances in the first hour that almost turned the game on its head: Álvaro had a cross-shot in the 19th minute that went just wide of the long post and Camello a shot at the near post that was met with a great save by Mamardashvili.
The Valencianista goalkeeper was back in goal and made one of his best saves of the season on an afternoon in which Valencia CF, after these two warnings from the Madrid side, continued to look for attacking options.
Hugo Duro claimed a possible penalty for a grab and Sergi Canós also did the same later for a possible handball by a rival defender. The winger from Nules would return to the charge with a good shot from outside the area in the 42' that required Dimitrievski a demonstration of reflexes to send a shot close to the post for a corner.
After the break, Valencia CF took a step forward and on the hour mark, Yaremchuk had a chance to make it 1-0. An assist from Thierry from the right left the Ukrainian striker one-on-one with the goalkeeper in the six-yard box, but his shot, when the fans were already cheering, went just wide.
The game was more open than ever and, just as Valencia CF came close to scoring, Rayo would have a one-on-one in which Mamardashvili would once again come up big against the opposing attacker and knock the ball out of his boots at the decisive moment.
